ESPN yeller Dick Vitale was hit by a foul ball sitting in his normal front-row seat at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, the Associated Press reports .

Vitale, a season-ticket holder for the Rays, was hit in the stomach area by a foul off the bat of Blue Jays leadoff man Fred Lewis, but appeared to be fine after the incident, talking to fans seated around him.

UPDATE: Vitale told the St. Petersburg Times he was fine, "It was scary -- it was a bullet. I've been here for 11 years, never had a line drive come to me. Maybe a popup. I don’t know how that happened."

Vitale said he got a call from the ESPN Baseball Tonight set and also got singed balls by both teams' managers, Cito Gaston and Joe Maddon, as well as Rays special assistant Rocco Baldelli.

It's been a rough week in "long-irrelevant bands playing after baseball games" news.

First, Hall and Oates declared Monday that they were canceling a concert after the July 2 Diamondbacks game in protest of Arizona's new immigration law.

Just when we had started to process our grief over that blow, there's this: The Go-Go's have scrapped their summer "farewell tour" after guitarist Jane Wiedlin suffered a knee injury. Looks like no show after the Rays game on July 10.

But take heart, baseball fans. There will still be postgame concerts this season featuring (really ) LL Cool J, Trace Adkins, Bret Michaels, Lynyrd Skynyrd, REO Speedwagon, Collective Soul, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Lou Gramm, Phil Vassar and Kool & the Gang.

Continuing the trend of everything on June 8, 2010, mentioning Stephen Strasburg, Tampa Bay's Jeff Neimann threw a better game than Strasburg.

Niemann threw a two-hit complete game, striking out six against the Blue Jays.

Still, even Niemann couldn't avoid Strasburg.

"There was a little buzz going aroudn the dugout," Niemmann said on MLB Network. "I heard he put on a show."

What he didn't say was he needed just 114 pitches to throw nine innings -- take that Strasburg and your 94 pitches in seven.

Niemann is 6-0, while Strasburg is a measly 1-0.
