Rockies making a push for Beltran

The Colorado Rockies, a surprise player for top free agents, are making a push for star outfielder Carlos Beltran. The Rockies would like to sign either Beltran or Michael Cuddyer for the outfield.

Colorado has competition for Cuddyer, who was offered $25 million over three years by the incumbent Twins. Minnesota is still hoping to re-sign Cuddyer.
Beltran's market has been something of a mystery, but it is believed Colorado would go two years to add him to the middle of their lineup, where he'd combine with Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez.

Beltran's knee history is a concern to many teams, but he played without knee trouble last year whe he produced for both the Mets and Giants.

The Cardinals have been rumored to be another possible suitor for Beltran, who is still only 33.

Redseat.......great perception. The Giants have eliminated 3 outfielders,.....and 6 players that equate to 220 years of geriatrics. Beltran wants to play in SF.......believe me. Sabean is sitting back waiting for no one to offer Beltran more than 3 yrs. Giants didn't need Pagan...but it is what it is. Counter offer will be on the table.

Exactly...  Sabean isn't an idiot and I would not put it by him to make sure they (Giants) get the "best offer" and price for him and a "win win" for everyone.

Beltran should go to the AL where he can DH. His knees are trash and are just going to get worse at 33. Better to go to the AL, where great hitters go to fade into the sunset.

Everybody's a GM. "I know we are a cheap as team." When all the arbitrations are concluded, the Giants will have the 5th or 6th highest payroll in the majors. There will be at least 10 teams in baseball who will be spending $60 MILLION less than the Giants. Get real.

Why would he be a better fit in St. Louis if you're bring up the whole DH thing?

Whitetrash - I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants were just sitting back and seeing what teams offer Carlos Beltran and then counter with their best offer and get him back.

As much as I am a little scared about the idea but I would not mind the Red Sox signing him.  Though it won't be cheap.

Going after Beltran is a good & needed move, unlike donating closer Houston Street to the Padres.  Same old no pitching story.  Aaron Cook probably isn`t busy taking calls as a desired free agent for a reason huh?  Pass on Cuddyer at that or any price north of $20,000,000.  Rocks could use him at 3B more than OF & Helton`s what neering 50 years old.  Or at least his bad back makes him play like it.  Bring back Giambi!!

Im alittle baffled on why the Giants havent tried to reseign Beltran. I know we are a cheap as team who only wants to pay the pitchers, but enough is enough with this offense. Pagan was a good deal, but we need some pop in the lineup. Beltran might have knee issues but with our other OF its def worth the gamble, not like hes asking for 7 years, hell only get a 2 or 3 year deal. GIANTS get off ur ass and sign him or Rollins or its gonna be another lonnnng year watching that offense
