Victor Conte unimpressed with Ryan Braun

By Matt Snyder

Many were impressed by exhonorated Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun's press conference Friday. Victor Conte wasn't one of those people.

Conte founded the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative ("BALCO") and served time in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute steroids and money laundering charges back in 2005. And he's not buying what Braun is selling.

Ever since the appeal decision was reported Thursday afternoon, Conte's been firing off tweet after tweet (@VictorConte) in an attempt to make everyone believe that he knows Braun used a "fast-acting testosterone." Here are a few examples:

• "My opinion. Floyd Landis case like Braun case. A & B samples w/ elevated T/E ratio. CIR confirms 'synthetic' testosterone. Lots of smoke"

• "[CIR confirmation is] Carbon Isotope Ratio tests for synthetic vs natural testosterone. Nail in coffin."

• "I believe fast acting testosterone use is rampant in MLB. Even 4 to 1 T/E ratio is easy to beat. CIR screening is needed on all samples"

• [in reply to someone calling him a "joke"] "Maybe the truth about the Braun case is the joke"

• "My opinion. Braun's positive test for testosterone was not overturned. Simply a procedure error was made by MLB. Braun tested positive."

There's more, but I'd rather not continue to give this guy his due. I found the last one I listed especially funny, as he stated that "Braun tested positive" as if that was some sort of revelation. Of course Braun tested positive. That wasn't in question. Braun even discussed that his test came up as positive. The question was whether or not the sample was a legitimate, untainted sample. Conte seems to believe he has all the information here -- as if he was in the lab -- and when someone uninvolved with the process acts like the ultimate authority on the matter, that always feels a bit much for me. I'm not going to pretend I know exactly what happened, but I do know a third-party arbitrator saw all the evidence and sided with a player for the first time ever. Conte believes he knows better.

Hey, to each his own. Feel free to give as much or as little credibility to Conte's tweets as you wish. We're simply passing them along.

Ryan Braun will have two sets of career stats; one set pre-innocence, another set post-innocence. Stats will be Braun's judge. Good luck Ryan, you're going to need some because if your stats decline, it will speak volumes.

It's Naive not nieve.....And I don't think any of us have all the facts...so anything on thisboard is pure speculation.  I have heard the Braun offered DNA and MLB refused and I have heard MLB said sure we'll check and then Braun backed off.

The whole thing is fishy - why was it leaked before the appeal?   Then the 48 hour delay raises doubts.

What i love is how everyone has flipped sides and now believe ryan braun is innocent.  Your DB's. When the Braun camp offered to give a DNA sample to prove it wasnt his DNA the league accepted the offer.  then the braun camp declined... Probaly because his lawyer or the MLBPA told him not to because they would of nailed his a** and Selig prized player would of taken a fall like all the other cheaters.  Its a sham and all who believe Braun are nieve fN idiots go F Your selfs DB's

Victor Conte? Well, there you go. The most trustworthy speciman on the planet. Braun? Well ... whatever. Can we just get on with spring training and all that hope springs eternal bulldooky? Braun's done more to try to clear his name in this incident than any other supposed, but not proven alleged PED user, since Mark McGwire refused to look at the past. And MLB should be angry (and ashamed) ... For the leak.

Yes, you might call Conte a DB, just like everyone called Conseco a DB.  But in the case of Canseco, he had it right.  The only thing keeping Ryan Braun from being added to the DB list is he beat it this time.  So now he catches hell everywhere he goes and finished 2012 with 25 HRs and 80 RBI, is he a user and a DB then?  I expect then people from the Commissioners Team (you know, the Brewers) will say that it is because they lost the Prince and not because Braun is of the juice.  We'll see.  I can no longer be a Ryan Braun fan.  I am a fan of drug testing.  Until I hear evidence that being triple wrapped in shipment somehow couse testosterone levels to increase in urine, Ryan Braun is nothing more than the latest Palmero.

Remember the players association signed off on the policy.  If someone can get caught and get off, I say add his 50 games to the next player caught, or give them back to Manny who somehow only has to serve 50 of his 100 game suspension.

Victor Conte is unimpressed with Ryan Braun.  I'm disappointed.  I doubted his innocence as soon as he came up positive.  Now I doubt his manhood even more.

"even 4/1 is easy to beat"  Isn't that the point?  This test was 20/1.  Nobody has ever tested higher than 7/1 and there have 10,000+ tests.  At 20/1, don't you have biceps bulging out of your eyebrows with acne on them while ripping baseball gloves in half with your bare hands in the biggest roid rage ever?  20/1 dude.  It's unnatural, and it's unnatural because it's planted.  Frame job here gone bad.

Can anyone tell me why we even care why an accussed felon that would throw his own mother under the bus? Please stop even interviewing or caring what he says. Watching him on twitter would be like watching paint dry 5 minutes after the final coat was put on ... you didn't get the fun of painting it!
