Bartolo ColonBy C. Trent Rosecrans

The A's have signed right-hander Bartolo Colon to a one-year deal worth $2 million, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports.

Colon, 38, came back from a year off to go 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 starts and three relief appearances for the Yankees last season. Colon probably projects as the team's No. 2 starter behind Brandon McCarthy.

Colon had drawn interest from the Diamondbacks as well. Earlier this winter the Yankees had some interest in bringing him back, but with the recent additions of Hiroki Kuroda and Michael Pineda, New York didn't need another season from Colon.

A's sign Bartolo Colon to 1-year, $2 million deal

Billy Beane needs to take some lessons from Brian Cashman on how to deal in the new decade. Beane used to be savy, but now he's just turned the A's into a used car lot. He collects other people's crap and tries to push it off on the poor people of Oakland.

Those trades they made were for the future. Signing Colon is for this year and getting him for 2 million is worth taking a chance. If he does not work out cut him and give 1 of the young guys a chance but if he does work out then he gives the young guys time to develop and put their arbitration farther down the road.

New Kind of Money Ball in Oakland

As you may have noticed, there is a new form of money ball happening in Oakland.  They have decided to trade all of their talented young pitching for a handful of magic beans and sign almost over the hill pitchers to replace them.  Apparently, Oakland A's ownership has decided to take a play from the Peter Angelos "How to Run a Club Into the Ground" handbook.  MLB should step in and force owners to reinvest a reasonable percentage of gross revenue (from all sources) back into their teams in the way of salary, scouting, and minor league talent.  Too many owners are merely banking the profits and putting a sub major league product on the field.  What has been happening in Baltimore is a travesty.

Laugh as don't but remember, nobody ever lost them all or won them all.
The A's won't win much this summer, but they won't be the worst team ever.
You still have to beat them.
Colon is a guy who qualifies as a place-holder. He may get 100 innings.

Too bad, if this guy could lose 40 pounds he might actually be able to throw more than 50 pitches without getting gassed..

Satch59...you realy think the A's would miss your 25 bucks for going to a few A's games. Have you seen Alameda Stadium? Don't think your the only one who has been taking a pass on A's games. Besides, anyone living in Oakland might want to start thinking about moving possibly. Not exactly what you'd call a BOOMING sports region. More like death valley. The A's, Raiders and Warriors.  Need I say more. Someone get me the Mayflower movers because it's not looking good or promising for any of those teams. One team(RAID) love to fire people, another doesn't sign anyone(A's) and what the hell have the Warriors done since Chris Mullin left? Ya, that long ago.
