Former Phillies and Astros general manager Ed Wade is back with the Phillies, this time in a scouting capacity. He will be a major- and minor-league scout while also helping with arbitration cases, the team announced Tuesday.

But that's not really why we're writing about it. No, this story is only interesting because of a quote from Wade.

"I'm prepared for the remarks that I only traded with the Phillies so [Phillies general manager] Ruben [Amaro, Jr.] would give me a job if I got fired," Wade said (Zachary Levine via Twitter).

Now that's funny. Does Wade listen to Houston sports talk radio or read message boards? Sure sounds like it.

Wade is close friends with Amaro -- in fact, Philly.com notes Wade is the Godfather to one of Amaro's daughters, but that hasn't been the problem for Astros fans. Wade has also traded Brad Lidge, Roy Oswalt and Hunter Pence to the Phillies over the past several seasons in three different trades, making it kind of a running joke amongst many baseball fans.

Hey, at least Wade is ready to take the flack.

Wade re-joins Phillies, prepared for backlash

Well Mr. Brad Lidge only saved an MLB record 41 of 41 chances in 2008.  A RECORD in MLB HISTORY.
That's not a record.  Check out Eric Gagne between 2002 and 2004.

Really???  I`d consider Brett Wallace big, but not a prospect.  No pitching or hitting and they`re now exiled to the AL West where Pujols and the Angels & Ranger$ rule.
If that's the only prospect you know of, then you're not following your team too closely.

And as for the AL West, who's fault is that?  THE ASTROS!  They had to agree to the move to be moved, and since they moved, who do you think is primarily responsible for them moving?  THEMSELVES!

you are out of your mind if you think that was ed wades team when the phillies won it!..the guy is a complete joke
Madson, Howard, Hamels, Burrell, Myers, Ruiz, Madson, Victorino....who brought all these players into the Phillies system?  Ed Wade.  Now go into the homegrown team arguments and what made the Phillies so good, and let me know how many of these players are on both lists.

Wade re-joins Phillies, prepared for backlash

Wade traded , the Phillies' long-time ace, to the for , , and . He signed veterans and to large contracts when they were approaching the end of their careers. He also included no-trade clauses in star players , , and 's contracts.
What were the Phillies with Curt Schilling?  A fledgling broken team.  This was the team with Schilling, post 1993....
'94 - .470
'95 - .479
'96 - .414
'97 - .420
'98 - .462
'99 - .475

And this was post-Schilling...

'00 - .401
'01 - .531
'02 - .497 (went 80-81, the 162nd game didn't matter and was not played due to being a make-up game)
'03 - .531
'04 - .531
'05 - .543

If you want to single out the Schilling trade as one of his bad trades?  You have some say to that, but the results beg to differ.  When 1 guy on the team is taking up almost 20% of your payroll and your team isn't going anywhere, change is needed.  Ed Wade brought that.  And when looking at the players in that trade, it wasn't that good, but not as bad as you think.  In the long run, the trade was a 3-year long salary dump.  A much needed one.

He also included no-trade clauses in star players , , and 's contracts.
Thome deserved a no-trade clause.  He was a prime player during his tenure here until he got hurt.  And Abreu was a great piece to build around.  He was never very clutch, but Abreu had an impact with his play.  And Burrell?  Well, the NTC in that one wasn't good, but the Phillies haven't had a good protection hitter for Ryan Howard since his departure...so you do the math on that one.

You can give him credit for Howard, Utley, Myers and Hamels but they did not win the series on their own.

You're right.  They also did it with Carlos Ruiz, Ryan Madson, and Shane Victorino.  All 3 VERY IMPORTANT players that were acquired under Wade's tenure.  So really, the homegrown core of this team was all Ed Wade (though Victorino wasn't drafted, he was a rule 5 draft and developed a bit in the Phillies system before being brought up).

Save your putting people in the seats argument.  No body went to see Abreu stop 6 feet from the wall on a fly ball.
Abreu and Thome helped win games, and winning games put people in seats.  Don't forget that the pretty ballpark the Phillies play in now, that was under his tenure too.

And, the astros do have a bunch of young talent.  unfortunatey you can never know if it will turn into anything but he did take a good Astro team and turn it into a rebuilding process.
That's on the Astros minor league system to succeed.  Wade gave them the tools, that's all he could do.  And on top of that, you never know how the Astros will manage the talent.  If they become the next version of the Pirates, is that Wade's fault?  No, that's on the owner for not trying to field a competitive team.  Wade got them the talent to build a team, but he could never force them to actually build one, not even if he was still their GM.

Wade re-joins Phillies, prepared for backlash

Ed Wade got better value in every deal he made with the Phillies. He won every trade, you moron. The Pence trade was the worst of them all for the Phillies. He trade raped Amaro there.

Get off your high horse ... only TWO players traded from the Phillies organization are even on the 40 man roster ... JA Happ and Sergio Escalona. These "prize" prospects you keep raving about may never even make it to the big leagues. Meanwhile, how many wins did Lidge, Oswalt &  Pence deliver .... more than anyone Wade got since 2008. So Wade trade raped no one.

Geeeezzz what a freaking surprise this is !!   The exact same GM who raped and ran the Houston team into the ground in large part by donating Lidge, Oswalt and Pence to the phillies is hired back by them.   The phillies own patsy-boy --- ED WADE.

It does not take a genius to figure this out -- every fan outside of philly knows exactly what has been happening here and only the ludicrous and blind philly fans continue to rationalize how "fair" the trades were that were made between Patsy Wade and the phillies.

philly fans pride themselves in being so "in your face" and "tough" and "blunt" and "loud" so let's just get to the point -- The Ed Wade/Houston/philly relationship reeks of COLLUSION.  We might as well have freakin Frank Rizzo presiding over MLB.

EVERY Wade deal was a total screw job in the phillies favor but let's just take a look at ONE --- philly fans point out that they gave up the great Michael Bourn for Brad Lidge.  Well Mr. Brad Lidge only saved an MLB record 41 of 41 chances in 2008.  A RECORD in MLB HISTORY.  He then saved 31 games in 2009 and 27 in 2010.  Meanwhile Bourn is a lifetime .271 hitter, has a lifetime .336 OBP, and a lifetime .358 slugging %.  True, he is fast --- just like Eric Yelding and Willy Taveras.  Michael Bourn was so highly thought of in Houston last year that they traded him to Atlanta even-up for Jordan Schafor.  &nb

Ed Wade should probably be banned from baseball.

Wade re-joins Phillies, prepared for backlash

Wade didn't draft anybody in Philadelphia.  That was the job of Phillies Asst. GM Mike Arbuckle & Scouting Director Marti Wolever.  Wade picked up his paycheck every 15th & last day of the month with a gun and a mask as the Phillies General Manager.  8 years he stole a salary that a competent person would have earned.  Now he's reunited with Phillies Announcer Chris Wheeler who is probably the only other Phillies employee other than current General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. that is happy that Ed "Eddie Highpants/Zippy the Chimp" Wade is back in Philadelphia.
