Tsuyoshi Wada is nearing a two-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles, sources have confirmed to's Jon Heyman. The news was first reported by Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Wada, 30, is a left-hander who is said to be a soft-tosser cut in the Jamie Moyer mold. He went 17-8 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in Japan last season. He did strike out 169 batters in 169 1/3 innings, so he must be crafty.

There's already a logjam of potential starting pitchers for the Orioles. The starting five, as of now, appears to be Jeremy Guthrie, Zach Britton, Jake Arrieta, Chris Tillman and Brian Matusz, but Tommy Hunter could easily figure into the mix. Plus, there's been talk of moving closer Jim Johnson into the rotation and we know Alfredo Simon can start if need be. If Wada is added, there are even more bodies vying for the five spots. It will be interesting to see what happens from there, as Guthrie -- to name just one -- has been mentioned in trade rumors for quite a while. With new leadership in place, massive changes could be on the horizon.

Left-hander Wada nearing deal with Orioles

As a lifelong Oriole fan I have to say "So what!" My team is irrelevant. I get my hopes up that we may be a .500 team and then the team collapses. I wonder if Angelos was aware that Baltimore was becoming an exclusively football town, and I wonder if he cared? I will still walk the streets of New York wearing an Orioles hat, and I will still be a fan, but I really dont know why.

Funny how the guy posting right in front of me, echos my very sentiments.  Peter Angelos is a cancer.  He is an open sore that won't heal.  He has the soul of a strip miner.  He came into Baltimore and destroyed the franchise and our once proud "Oriole Way" that all of baseball was trying to emulate.  The guy has lost top first round picks just because he refused to pay them.  Angelos doesn't give a damn about local fans, as he is drawing a huge number from NY and Boston, coming down on the train, because they can't get good seats or cheap ticket prices there.  I can't wait to read Peter Angelos' obituary because it will mean that we are finally free of this plague that has raped our club all of these years.  He has milked this team for all that he can get out of it, and is not reinvsting a penny.

"Massive changes could be on the horizon"  Not likely, with Peter Angelos still in charge nothing will change. No big bats no big arms, just the bare minimu
m so Peter can lines his pockets even more while the fans suffer through another disappointing season. Until Pete is dead and buried the O's have no chance.
