Yankees not interested in C.J. Wilson right now

The Yankees can use some starting pitching and seeing as how left-handers fare well in that ballpark, it seemed natural that they'd be interested in free agent lefty C.J. Wilson. Along with Mark Buehrle, he forms the top two left-handers on the market, after all. And we know the Yankees aren't shy about paying top dollar to lure free agents to the Bronx. Only this time, they aren't willing to do so.

Wilson's agent requested a meeting with the Yankees and has been shot down (ESPN New York). CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler noted that the Yankees consider Wilson's asking price too high, thus, a meeting wouldn't accomplish much.

We know the Angels and Marlins are interested in Wilson, but otherwise there hasn't seemed to be near as much interest as was initially expected. Maybe the lackluster postseason performance really did scare teams away. Then again, Wilson reportedly asked the Angels for $100 million (Jon Heyman), so it makes sense the asking price is driving potential suitors away.

Wilson, 30, was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 206 strikeouts in 223 1/3 innings during the 2011 regular season, making his first All-Star team. He's only been a starter at the big-league level for two years.

Wilson would be a good addition but not for the money he is asking. 4 years 64 million is the ballpark he will probably get.

A Poor mans Cliff Lee, but he needs to show more clutch pitching before breaking a teams bank even the unlimited flow of cash in NY

I think this is just C.J. Wilson and his agent testing the waters.  He's been a good pitcher but $100Million good!  I'd like to see him win a WS game before asking for that kind of money.  As a Rangers fan, I'd like to see him stay, but not if he's going to break the bank!  Ultimately, I think he ends up staying in Texas for les money....then again, someone is probably bound to overpay him.  I hope he doesn't end up with the Angels though...if anything, go to the NL...LOL.

It's hard to judge ourselves sometimes, isn't it...?

He isn't worth even close to that. Texas will probably have to throw at least 85 at him in order to keep him around.

Good point, Jered Weaver got 5 years and $80 mil. Wilson asking for 100 mil yikes, he is not nearly as talented as Weaver. I think he should be in the 5/65 - 5/70 range and maybe a 6th year team only option. Although because it is such a weak market this year for top of the rotation starting pitchers, somebody is going to overpay. I wonder who if not the Yankees? Red Sox maybe? Marlins? I think it will probably be the Rangers but no way is he getting 100 mil from anybody. Well at least I don't think so.

I don't think the Angels will sign him for any more than they signed Weaver for. Should be 5 years for less than $80m. IMHO probably closer to $70m.
