The Cleveland Indians have brought back center fielder Grady Sizemore on a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday. The base salary is $5 million with up to $4 million in incentives. The Indians previously declined a $9 million option for Sizemore, so the deal could amount to the same figure if he returns to form.

"The Indians were aggressive in wanting to keep Grady, and he has said all along he would keep an open mind toward returning," his agent, Joe Urbon, said in an email to the Associated Press. "He appreciates the interest from other clubs, and he just felt that the best place to reassert himself as a great player is in Cleveland."

Sizemore, 29, was well on his way to being a perennial MVP candidate until injuries derailed him the past few seasons. He's had five surgeries and only played 210 games in the past three seasons -- following three All-Star seasons in which he finished in the top 12 of AL MVP voting. Still, he's had surgery on his balky knee and is expected to be fully recovered by spring training. This contract is an absolute bargain for the 2011 season if Sizemore stays healthy and plays to his capability.

Sizemore hit .224/.285/.422 with 10 homers and 21 doubles in 71 games last season -- but, again, he was playing with an injured knee. He has played his entire career for the Indians.

The Indians outfield is now set, with Shin-Soo Choo in right field, Michael Brantley in left and Sizemore remaining in center. There was previous talk that Sizemore was open to moving to a corner, much like Carlos Beltran did this past season, but that's not the current plan.

Grady Sizemore re-signs with Indians

i was hoping the tiger would of signed him, i think it was smart for cleveland to re-sign him and not let him walk espically on a 1 yr contract if he stinks it up this yr then i think cleveland should let him walk. but a 1 yr contract for 5 million was a no-brainer. smart move cleveland

Grady Sizemore re-signs with Indians

Sizemore knows one way to play CF and that is 'all out'.  Will he re-injure his knees in diving for the ball, crashing into the outfield wall, or stealing a base?  That is the only mystery.  The guy's bones are made of glass.  He had yet more surgery just last month.  Why not have him play 1B and/or DH when Hafner goes on the DL?

Grady Sizemore re-signs with Indians

"Just like Lofton, he likes dudes"

I don't give a rat's ass who or what the guy likes, as long as he hits for power and steals bases like he did his first five seasons in the major leagues.

By the way, there are lots of gay dudes that have played baseball over the years, none of them hit as good as Grady when he was healthy.

Grady Sizemore re-signs with Indians

This is a good signing by the Tribe.  Sizemore should have a nice size chip on his shoulder and will be motivated to show MLB that he can still perform at a high level.  He just went up near the top of my sleeper picks for the upcoming season.

Grady Sizemore re-signs with Indians

Honestly thought he would test the market, kinda figured a change of scenery woulda helped him stat wise and maybe stay alittle more healthy. Still the Giants woulda atleast tried to get him, but guess the market is weak right now. Guess were stuck with Melkey in CF....

$5 million for a guy that's sure to play 80 games or less ... wow.  There's a reason Cleveland sucks year in and year out.
