Brewers, Tigers, Marlins after Reyes

During the next few weeks, we'll start to see serious suitors emerge for the big-name free agents, and Tuesday morning Jon Heyman of SI.com tweeted out three in particular for star shortstop Jose Reyes. Heyman first noted that the Brewers are beginning to realize they have little chance at retaining first baseman Prince Fielder, so they're focusing on Reyes. Next, Heyman reported that the Marlins are "deadly serious" about Reyes and that the Tigers are also possible.

Hot Stove Season
Two of the three teams listed here aren't surprising in the least. I predicted the Brewers would land Reyes, as they have a hole at shortstop, likely can't afford Prince and could use a leadoff hitter. My colleague Danny Knobler noted Reyes would be a perfect fit for the Tigers, too. And remember, the Mets are not confident in keeping Reyes. As for the Marlins, well, Reyes works more than it would appear on the surface.

Let's keep in mind, the Marlins are moving into a new stadium for 2012. They're renaming themselves the Miami Marlins and getting new uniforms. So they're looking to make a big splash and capitalize on the changes. Payroll is reportedly going to skyrocket. Adding a player like Reyes most certainly would excite the hometown fans and he works well atop the order for them. Fellow All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is already in house, though, so one of the two would have to change positions. The Marlins have a hole at third base, so obviously if Reyes signed, Ramirez would be moved to third.

Reyes, 28, hit .337/.384/.493 with 16 triples, 101 runs and 39 steals in 126 games this past season.

Brewers, Tigers, Marlins after Reyes

Maybe the Marlins, but not the Tigers or Brewers. If Ned is going to spend oney it should be to keep Prince. Detroit needs a few others pieces and Reyes while tempting isn't one of them. Now the name Hanley Ramirez to the Tigers for a package is possible.

Reyes would be an unbelievable addition for the Tigers, I pray to God Dombrowski pulls it off and signs him.  I have no idea what people are talking about when it comes to injuries and all the negative crap about Reyes.   In each of the last 2 seasons he's played close to 130 games, actually I believe an average of 130 games per season.  He's such an explosive and dynamic player, I'll take 130 games from him anytime.  As long as he's ready come playoff time, I don't care if he spends 30 days on the disabled list.

Baseball fans in general and even Tiger fans sometimes forget where the Tigers play their home games, Comerica Park.  Comerica is a hitters dream park for a guy like Reyes.  The park ranked 10th in all of MLB in doubles this year and 2nd in all of MLB in triples.  It's not a home run park, not at all.  But because of a huge outfield, it's a great park for extra base hits and guys like Reyes can dominate in a park like that.  Not to mention that something like 4 of the other top 10 parks in doubles are in the american league that Reyes would get a chance to play some games in and I believe 3 of those parks make the top 4 in triples as well including KC that is in Detroit's division.

We haven't had a legitimate leadoff hitter in Detroit for a long long time.   The Tigers possess some excellent hitters all the way down the lineup and the future is looking good.  A guy like Reyes changes everything for a team like Detroit in a park like Comerica....

I'll take that guy any day of the week.... I pray we can get him. Move Austin Jackson down to 9th and he goes from a not so good leadoff hitter to a solid 9 hitter.... big difference there.  Reyes will set the table for guys like Vmart and Miggy......  it's not often a team gets the chance to pick up a hitter this talented with the speed this kid has.

Sign him now Dombrowski..... please.

Marlins have Hanley who should bounce back next season, so that's odd.  The Brewers would have a sick DP tandum with Reyes & Weeks, but it could literally be 'sick' and miss a combined 60 games.

i understand this is speculation for jose going to the marlins, but really, and i'm a marlin fan, they need alot more than 2 ss. how about a catcher, a bullpen and a new manager. ozzie is crap, mr. loria u couldn't get along with joe girardi, ozzie is a nut case. you spent large money for a new ballpark in south fl, when all of your fan base is in the w. palm beach area, personally i think your all crazy. watch out mr. bienfest, omar might be on the way!!! you want to spend this year, you could have had a dynasty, but u traded them all away. go miggie. disgrunted fan------------------

Even the Marlins signed Reyes. Can the Marlins bring 30,000 plus fans every games to see Jose Reyes played.
