Braun: Reyes more likely for Brewers than Prince

The thought of Prince Fielder leaving the Brewers after this season via free agency is certainly secondary at this point in time, as the Brewers square off against the Cardinals in the NLCS. But when the Brewers season does eventually end, all the focus will shift to Fielder's status. And it's very likely the Brewers just don't have enough money to keep him. But that doesn't mean they're out of options. It's entirely possible the Brewers could afford Jose Reyes, and star left fielder Ryan Braun believes he's the more likely target.

"I think there's a better chance we sign [Reyes] than we re-sign Prince," Braun said (New York Post).

Braun then gushed about the Mets' speedy shortstop.

"[Reyes] is dynamic, man -- he is one of the most exciting players in the game," Braun said (New York Post). "He plays with a lot of energy and a lot of emotion and I enjoy watching him play. He's one of my favorite players to watch. Whenever their games are on, I love watching him, man. He always plays the game the right way. He always plays hard. He runs everything out."

Now, Braun isn't the GM, so this is merely him thinking out loud, but it makes a ton of sense. Yuniesky Betancourt is currently playing shortstop for the Brewers and he can be bought up for $2 million after this season. While Corey Hart has had a good season in the leadoff spot, he's not exactly the prototypical leadoff hitter. If Fielder walks and the Brewers ink Reyes, the top of the order could look something like: Reyes, Hart, Braun, Rickie Weeks. That's a lot of speed and power, and it would certainly help fill the void left by Fielder.

But, again, this is all idle speculation for the time being. Now go enjoy Game 1 of the NLCS.

I really do like Prince but if he is putting himself above the team, you have to let him go.  No player is worth 20-25 mil a year!  Look at the ungodly amount of money the yankees are paying Texeira, Rodriguez and Jeter, and what did they get for it?  Alot of these so called pro athletes are WAY OVERPAID!  making 5 to 7 mil a year to hit 15 homers and hit .250 is just stupid rediculous.  So many Hall of Famers that paved the way before should be turning over in their graves, do ya think Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron ever dreamt of the type of money these on again off again the disable list wusses are making?

If the Yankees trade for Greinke, I'll become a Mets fan.

If the Mets let Reyes go, it might be the best move....

Isn't anyone bothered by an average of 129.5 games played the last 2 seasons?  That, following a 36 game season in 2009.

Everyone knows that the numbers for this past season are solid.  126 games BA .337, OBP .384.  But what about 2010? BA .282, OBP .321.   I'm talking fear, here.  How does 130 games BA .275, OBP .315 sound?  Sure he'll be only 29 but for my money it's difficult to look past the recent, injury plagued past.  Maybe Theo will sign him, might be an upgrade for aging Marco Scutaro (BA .299, OBP .358 in 113 games).

I hope the Brewers do sign Reyes.  He's one of the best players in the game.  If Fielder leaves Milwaukee, I hope he winds up in Baltimore.  The O's could use his bat in the heart of the lineup.  But that's a lot of money for any player.  Players and their agents are losing touch.  The rest of the country is worried about foreclosure and selling tickets won't be so easy any more.

Braun needs to worry about the Playoffs.  I think its jacked up to be talking about a current teammate while your trying to win a title.  Comments like these could only do harm at this point in the season.  on that note go CARDS!!!!!!!!

I'll wager you think Betty Luongo is worth 5 - 6 mil (US) !
What are you so bitter about? You really think one player should take up 3 quarters of a teams payroll? How does that leave any room to sign anyone else or improve your club? "Betty" as you refer to him has like 10-11 straight seasons with a goals against below 3. Well worth the 6.7 million or so he will be paid this year. Did he have a rough playoff (Finals) ? yes, but without Luongo the Canucks wouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

What Rodriguez? Fransisco? Too late, he's already on the Brewers. lol. Armando Rodriguez maybe? I believe he's a top end prospect, no way the Mets deal him for Betancourt.
