Major League Baseball has revealed a possible Thursday doubleheader of tiebreakers. Should the Rays and Red Sox end the regular season with an identical record, as they have now, they'll play a one-game playoff Thursday to determine the AL wild card. Should the Braves and Cardinals end the regular season with an identical record, as they also have now, they'll play a one-game playoff Thursday to determine the NL wild card.

Both games would air on TBS. Here is the schedule that was announced in a press release:

Thursday, 4:07 p.m. ET: Red Sox at Rays
Thursday, 8:07 p.m. ET: Braves at Cardinals

Again, these games will only take place if either or both groups finish in a tie. The Red Sox and Rays entered Tuesday night tied, while the Braves held a one-game lead over the Cardinals.

Also, the ALDS series will both begin Friday and air on TBS. Here's the schedule for those:

Friday, 5:37 p.m. ET: Rays or Red Sox at Rangers or Tigers
Friday, 8:37 p.m. ET: Tigers or Rangers at Yankees

I could be wrong...... But I think in MLB a division winner can't play the wild card team in the first round, if they are from the division. I may stand corrected but I'm pretty sure this is how it is.

That is incorrect.  The series are decided on record only.  Whoever has the better record between the Tigers and the Rangers would play the wild card winner, and the team with the worse record would play @ the Yankees.  They are only 1 game apart right now.  If the Rangers win they automatically play the wild card winner, if the Tigers win tonight and the Rangers lose then there will be probably a head to head tie breaker which Detroit would win because they were 4-2 against the Rangers this season.  It will all be decided tonight!!  Gotta love baseball!!

Hammer: The game starting times are more than 24 hours apart and the furthest the teams would travel is Detroit, a 2 hour flight from Tampa which is also in the Eastern Time Zone. They meet the MLB/Players Union requirements.  we migth be having issues if Boston of Tampa was flying from Seattle or if Anaheim (yes I call them Anaheim because parts of the OC are just as ghetto as LA proper, so why the long name) was the other Wild Card.

if you don't want to play back to back early games, then dont wait until the last day to clinch your spot in the playoffs.

So apparently none of you guys know the MLB rules which state the No. 1 team gets choice of which playoff series they want to play in.  And since you cant play a playoff series from a team in your division, that makes the wild-card team play the first series.
