Back in the middle of August, Jim Thome hit his 600th career home run. As a way to honor Thome and "keep the Twins players and their partners safe during their celebrations," NuVo sent 600 free condoms to the Twins. Well, wouldn't you know it, in light of Mariano Rivera setting the new MLB record with his 602nd save Monday, NuVo sent 602 free condoms to the Yankees.
From the press release:
To congratulate Mariano Rivera's MLB record-breaking achievement of 602 saves yesterday against the Minnesota Twins, NuVo not only sent 602 condoms in a custom designed Mariano Rivera Yankee Jersey piñata but also donated $602 to the Mariano Rivera Foundation. The NuVo Team wishes Rivera and the Yankees a fun but safe celebration! NuVo, a NY-based company, is devoted to spreading the word about safe sex and giving back to the community through various sex education programs and charities. From one protector to another NuVo Condoms salutes the great Mariano Rivera on this amazing accomplishment! That's a classic paragraph on so many levels. "From one protector to another" struck me as hilarious (not sure why, it just did). And how about the fact that they sent condoms to Yankee Stadium in a Rivera pinata?
Give NuVo credit, they're definitely making a mark before their product even hits stores (which happens this coming spring). They've now given out over 250,000 free condoms.
