The Angels avoided a sweep in Baltimore Sunday when Jered Weaver picked up the win on the strength of some great run support. The Rangers went out and beat Felix Hernandez and the Mariners, 3-0, however, so the AL West lead remained 4 1/2 games. The Rangers have nine games left and the Angels have 10. It's a tall mountain to climb, but the Angels do get to host the Rangers for a three-game series to close the season. So if they can chip 1 1/2 games off the lead in the next week, they'll have a shot.

Let's break it down.

Texas Rangers
88-65
Remaining schedule: 3 @ OAK, 3 vs. SEA, 3 @ LAA
Coolstandings.com chances of winning AL West: 96.3 percent

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
83-69, 4.5 GB
Remaining schedule: 4 @ TOR, 3 vs. OAK, 3 vs. TEX
Coolstandings.com chances of winning AL West: 3.7 percent

As we said above, the Angels need some help in the next seven days, but if they get it, they'll control their own destiny in one final series.

Playoff Race: Rangers, Angels both win

As a diehard Angel fan this is tough for me to say. I think the Angels are toast. Texas has been and is cointinuing to fire on all cylinders. Right now the Angels have more of a shot at the wild card versus catching and passing the Rangers for the West title. The way Boston is falling apart and the Rays have to still play the Yankees the Halos best shot at the playoffs this years lies in the Wild Card chase. Who knows ... maybe a repeat f the 2002 World Series team who as we all know entered those playoffs as the Wild Card. I guess only time will tell! Go Angels!

Playoff Race: Rangers, Angels both win

Worst case Texas will go 1-2 against Oak and 2-1 against Sea for 3-3 record (I think they could go 4-2)
Best case Angels go 2-2 against Tor and 3-0 against Oak for 5-2 (I think they go 4-3)

So worst case/best case scenario has Tex with 3 game lead going into final series with Angels needing a sweep (not likely to get it)
My prediction is Texas is up by 4 and clinches before the Angel series.
