Report: Lackey fined for bean ball

John LackeyBy C. Trent Rosecrans

Red Sox starter John Lackey has been fined for hitting Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli in Tuesday's game at Fenway Park, WEEI.com's Rob Bradford reports.

Citing a major league source, Bradford writes that Lackey was finder an undisclosed amount for his bean ball. Cervelli had hit a homer off of Lackey two innings earlier and emphatically clapped his hands as he crossed the plate -- a move several Red Sox seems to think crossed the line.

Lackey denied hitting Cervelli on purpose after the game -- but did admit he was trying to knock him down, just not hit him.

The incident emptied the benches, but Lackey was not ejected from the game.

I like these comments from the redsux fans about Lackey. I think he should stick around

Report: Lackey fined for bean ball

Lackey has been a real piece of work this year. I never really paid much attention to hime while he was playing for the Angels, but he throws garbage up to the plate, and then has the nerve to shout out an explitive when the pitch is parked deep, or nailed through the infield. It allears that he feels that nothing he throws should be hit? I've even seen him bitching at Pedroia when he lays out trying to stop a ball up the middle and cant'

What a jerk. Always thought he was a workhorse, and innings eater. Right now I'd settle for someone that you KNOW won't last 6 innings. Move him along. Time for him to find another teanm to play for.

First and foremost, Millar is an idiot... of course, he did play for the Red Sux for what - 3 years... another one of those 'lets lobby for a Red Sux player for MVP' as does the ESPN network... the succeeded when Pedroia got that award over a more deserving Morneau that year...

Francona should be fined also... this is his MO - hitting batters to essentially get them out of the game...
Boston leads the majors this season with 72 hit batsmen, Lackey now has 17...
Boston year after year leads the majors in this category...
The Yankees are second in batsmen hit right behind the White Sox...

The top ten all time pitchers that have the most hit batsmen all have pitched for the Red Sux.

The top ten pitchers with the most hit batsmen for a single season all have pitched for the Red Sux.

There is a definite pattern here...

Francona was passed over to become the White Sox manager years ago, because the upper management of the White Sox really didn't like Franconia's minor league record of either allowing or ordering his minor league pitchers to hit batters when 'necessary'... This has carried over to his major league managerial philosophy...

When will MLB start cracking down on this before someone really gets hurt...
