Red Sox trade for Conor Jackson

The Boston Red Sox have traded minor-league pitcher Jason Rice to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Conor Jackson, the A's have announced.

J.D. Drew is presently on the disabled list and suffered a sprained middle finger on his minor-league rehab assignment, so Jackson could be insurance for the injury-prone Drew. Josh Reddick has been admirably filling in for Drew in right field, so it wasn't really a glaring need for the AL East leaders. Instead of figuring prominently, Jackson likely just provides more depth as rosters expand.

Jackson, 29, is hitting .249/.315/.342 with four homers, 38 RBI and 30 runs in 368 plate appearances this season.

Rice, 25, is 4-5 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 85 1/3 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket this season.

Red Sox trade for Conor Jackson

From 06-08 Jackson was a solid ableit unspectacular everyday player, then he somehow forgot how to hit, which is odd for a guy entering his prime years. Reddick was amazing when he was called up and I suspect will retain most of the starts in right despite his recent slump because J.D. is and always has been useless since Boston signed him. Everytime Boston makes even the slightest move people go crazy but this is nothing more than collecting late season depth. If Jackson gives them anything anything more than Darnell McDonald has been, consider it gravy.

Red Sox trade for Conor Jackson

Theo fufills another man crush adding the once hyped prospect Conor Jackson, who can`t stay healthy and at 29 is seeing his window to become an everyday player in MLB closing. Remember Jeremy Hermida? Theo loved him too. Maybe Theo & Billy Beane can go on a date to see Brad Pitt in Moneyball. Funniest part to me is admirably filling in for JD Drew. That slug is the biggest candy ass position player is MLB. Rich harden is the same for pitchers. Reddick has potential and building some half ass platoon isn`t helping the kid. Im` sure the geek squad/Bill Jmaes will calculate how great Conor`s OBP and fly ball to the monster ratio would make him a great player. Enjoy your date Theo, Conor will look sharp in uniform and be gone next spring.

Red Sox trade for Conor Jackson

I'd rather have Conor Jackson than J.D.Drew on the team.In fact I'd rather have Jesse Jackson than Drew on the team.

Sounds like a decent trade for both teams. I'm glad that the Rich Harden fiasco did not ruin any cooperation between the teams. The Red Sox did not like Harden's medical report and thus pulled the player to be named later while astute A's fans like myself wondered why Beane would settle for the prospect Boston was willing to give up. The guy was a C- prospect. Thus the A's also wanted another player for Harden.
