StrasburgBy Evan Brunell

You can expect a sold-out crowd in Washington on Sept. 6, as Stephen Strasburg will be making his 2011 debut against the Dodgers, provided he experiences no setbacks in his next rehab start.

Strasburg is making his sixth and final rehab start in Double-A on Thursday. So far, Strasburg has made five rehab starts in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, posting a 5.02 ERA across three levels and is coming off allowing one run in five innings for Triple-A.

Assuming the Nationals keep Strasburg on schedule he'll make three straight home starts on Sept. 6, 11 and 16 before his first road start in Philadelphia on the 21st.

By the way, Strasburg will get his first chance to be Bryce Harper's teammate on Thursday, as Harper is currently assigned to the Double-A team. Harper won't play as he's currently on the disabled list, but it won't be the last time Strasburg and Harper will be teammates, as Harper is expected to debut in the majors at some point next season.

Stephen Strasburg to return to Nats on Sept. 6

they are giving him an innings foundation for next season, just like the nationals did with jordan zimmermann last season. strasburg will pitch 40-50 innings to get used to MLB again. then next season he will pitch around 160 innings (if they are out of contention, which seems likely). as said by myself and many others, they did the exact same thing with zimmermann. strasburg will be fine, they arent rushing him. i didnt see anybody complaining about them rushing zimmermann last season.....

Too soon?  You guys are idiots!  He has the team, the team doctor, the surgeon and even his agent signing off on every move he makes and I'm sure that all of them are okay with him pitching.  Also, what evidence do you have that he is being rushed back?  It can't be because he is ahead of the schedule of others with the surgery.  Actually, he is behind many!  Tommy John himself made his debut a year and a day after his injury!  And that was in the mid 70s!  He went on to win 20 games, three times after the surgery so was that rushing him back.  Strasburg's teammate, Jordan Zimmermann, returned on almost the same schedule and most have considered his first year back a success!  Again, I'm sure all of you guys knew that when shouting they are rushing him back.

This is great news but why not wait until next year as the Nats are out of the playoff race.  Why rush things?  IMO the Nats rushed Strasburg onto the scene last year.  Let him stay at the Dub-A/Triple-A level and use the off-season to rest his cannon and be ready for spring training, which will be here before you know it.

Darn, I'm going to be there the 4th.  Maybe be Nats can let him pitch Sunday.  It's not like they're rushing him back to help with the pennant race.  What's another 2 days earlier.  Probably will just have to catch him at Hagerstown next year for a rehab start or two.

Great to see him coming back, but what's the rush?  I believe that's what has led to his condition in the first place.  This yound man has shown that he has phenomenal talent and will get big league hitters out with regularity, but if I were the Nats front office,  I may think about bringing him along at a much slower pace.  After all, he was and is being looked at as the cornerstone of this franchise, and with good reason.  I hope they don't ruin him, because of the lack of foresight... and hindsight.

Stephen Strasburg to return to Nats on Sept. 6

Last Sat. Nite in the CUSE, he was perfect through 5 innings, no hits or walks, and struck out 7 and nothing left the infield. He threw 67 pitches 47 for stikes, and he topped out at 98mph. He is amazing to watch, looking forward to a road trip to Nationals Park next year to see him.
