By Matt Snyder

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins left Sunday's game against the Nationals in the third inning Sunday with a right groin injury and is listed as day to day. He appeared to injure himself on a Jesus Flores ground ball in the second inning, in which Rollins ranged far to his left and had to spin around in making the throw to first. He'll have an MRI Monday morning (The Phillies Zone). Wilson Valdez took over at short for the Phillies.

You wouldn't know it to look at their record -- an MLB-best 81-43 entering Sunday -- but the Phillies have had a rash of injuries all season. Rollins came into the game hitting .269/.343/.403 with 14 homers, 58 RBI, 79 runs and 28 stolen bases. He's been hot of late, as he'd hit successfully in 14 of the last 15 games (with a .305 average and .815 OPS) prior to Sunday.

The Phillies are expected to activate Placido Polanco from the disabled list Monday (Matt Gelb via Twitter), so that will help soften the blow of losing Rollins.

Rollins injures groin, to have MRI Monday

I am more dissapointed with how Charlie managed these two games. Weather problems aside, I think he could have done a better job.  Friday Night Lidge came in the 7th and threw 8 pitches and had the Nationals looking like fools.  They didn't hit for him, so why then go to Bastardo in the 8th who in turn only threw 9 pitches once again making the National hitters look clueless. Then Charlie brings in Madson who just pitched two days in a row if I'm not mistaken.  Lidge could have pitched one more inning and Bastardo could have went for the save.

Then, yesterday's game, why whne you just took the lead with 1 out and two use Ross Gload who has done NOTHING but strike out consistantly for two weeks now instead of Mayberry who could have busted the game wide open?  Makes no sense to me.

Of course, Bastardo did not help matters when he had 1 more strike to get and instead of throwing a pitch out of the strike zone, he dicides to groove one right down the middle.

Very frustrated over the whole series, and Charlies stubborness in certain situations. Like last week when Lidge, Bastardo and Madson were ready and yet he puts Halladay back out there after throwing 98 pitches, unnecessary.

Everyone keeps saying don't worry the Phils will win the division, but I'd rather them win as much now and rest Roy and Lee and Hammels if possible so they dont have dead arms in October!

Phils pitching is fine. The closers have actaully been very good this year with very few blown saves. Bastardo was one strike away and gave up a lucky shot on a decent pitch to a guy with 4 homers all year that threw his bat head out there in desperation and happened to connect. Bad week for that for phils but certainly not the norm this year. Atlanta has the pitching to keep up, the same cannot be said for Brewers, please. Achilles heel for phils will be their prolonged sudden offensive draughts.

Rollins leaves game with groin injury

Rollins will be fine.
Now we see that the Phillies have a weakness, their lack of bullpen! Another lead blown. You see teams get exposed all the time. It has taken longer with the Phillies because their starting pitching is so good. But in the playoffs, you need that hammer out of the bullpen. The Phillies don't have ANYONE that can consistantly close the door.
There are two other teams in the NL that will be able to stay with those starters, Atlanta and Milwaukee. And both of those teams have at least 2 relief pitchers that can close. That would be 2 more than the Phillies.
