By Matt Snyder Giants outfielder Carlos Beltran hasn't played since August 7 with an injury to his right hand, but he'd been hanging in the active roster since then, being listed as day to day prior to every single game. Tuesday, the Giants will finally put him on the disabled list. He'll be eligible to return to the Giants in just a week, as the trip to the DL will be retroactive to the last time he played (Extra Baggs). Miguel Tejada will be activated as a corresponding move.
Beltran, 34, was acquired by the Giants on July 27 to bolster their struggling offense and things haven't exactly gone as planned. He was having a huge bounce-back season before the trade, but his line with the Giants is just .244/.261/.356 with two RBI and four runs in 11 games. He was hitting .321 with a double and two triples in August before the injury, though, so the injury possibly stopped him from heating up.
The Giants have gone 6-12 since Beltran joined the team and trail Arizona by 2 1/2 games in the NL West.
Tejada, 37, is hitting .242/.274/.334 this season for the Giants. He'll be contending with new Giant Orlando Cabrera for playing time at shortstop.
