Rockies closer Huston Street hasn't pitched since August 8 with a mild triceps strain, and the injury has landed him on the 15-day disabled list. As a corresponding move, the Rockies have activated first baseman Jason Giambi. Giambi was sidelined with a left quad injury (MLB.com via Twitter).

Street has gotten worse as the season has progressed. He started by converting his first 11 save chances with a 2.12 ERA. He does have 29 saves in all, but he also has three blown saves, three losses, a 4.06 ERA and has allowed a career-high 10 home runs. Rafael Betancourt is the likely closing option with Street down.

Giambi, 40, could be a trade candidate this month now that he's returned. He was coming up in trade rumors in late July before the injury and he'd surely pass through waivers smoothly. Ballclubs wanting an experienced left-handed power bat off the bench could definitely benefit from acquiring him. He's hitting .260/.357/.625 this year with 10 home runs in just 96 at-bats.

The pitching staff keeps getting thinner and thinner. First, Ubaldo was senselessly traded. Then Nicasion suffered that horrible injury resulting in a neck fracture. After that Lindstrom goes on the DL followed by Street. Pretty soon they will have to be asking pitchers to come out of retirement to fill the holes. They came close with Millwood talking retirement and wound up signing him. Not the way the season was supposed to go...

Street's recent performance is why the A's traded him. I suppose Colorado fans are no longer proud/estatic about "fleecing" the A's.
