By Matt Snyder Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is working his way back from a July 11 surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and it appears he's very close to re-joining the big-league lineup. The Yankees tentatively plan on A-Rod serving as the designated hitter in a minor-league rehab game Friday. If there are no setbacks in that game, he'd return to third base for a rehab game Saturday. Everything still seems set for A-Rod to join the Yankees on their next road trip, which begins Monday, Aug. 15. (Bombers Beat)
Rodriguez, 36, is hitting .295/.366/.485 with 13 homers and 52 RBI in 80 games this season. He'll even further strengthen the already powerful Yankees offense. The Yankees are the AL Wild Card leader and trail the Red Sox by 2 1/2 games in the AL East.
