Baseball is trying to prevent players from using deer antler spray as an alternative to steroids, SI.com reports.
The velvet from immature deer antlers have been found to include insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), which controls the level of human growth hormone (HGH) in the body. HGH is banned by baseball because it can help build muscle and cut fat and may be even more effective than steroids. There is no current drug test for HGH as it cannot be detected in urine. No blood testing has been agreed to by the player's union and baseball, which is required to find HGH and IGF-1.
The substance from the deer is sprayed under the tongue and acts as a "anabolic or growth stimulation," with "muscular strength and endurance," one manufacturer said.
Baseball's warning was only about a specific brand of deer spray and not because of IGF-1, but because it's considered a potentially-contaminated nutritional substance. Players were warned that the spray could show up as positive for a banned steroid called methyltestosterone, which is not one of the deer spray's ingredients.
Essentially, baseball is telling players that it has caught on to the new wave of trying to get ahead, and is helping produce a chilling effect by warning that it can show up on drug tests if "contaminated" with a banned substance.

MLB warns about steroid alternative in deer sprayI have used this product for almost 2 years and anyone who says it does not work should try it themselves before knocking it. There is a reason MLB, MMA, NFL and others are using it. It works. I have used antler velvet extract in pill form and spray form and the spray form works best. MLB warns about steroid alternative in deer sprayIt cannot be tested in urine, it doesn't say that it can't be tested at all. However; what it does say is that it can be tested through blood tests. The MLBPA has not agreed to allow blood testing to take place (which it also says) which is the reason it currently cannot be tested for in baseball. If the NFL and Olympics begin to test for HGH in the future, you guessed it, it will be because they've conducted blood tests, not urine.

Rocket scientist.... from AP: "Each NFL player would be blood-tested once annually and would face an unlimited number of random blood tests for human growth hormone each year under the program scheduled to begin this season, according to the league. The blood-testing will be run much like the sport’s existing program for other banned performance-enhancing substances, an NFL spokesman said. The league currently conducts about 14,000 steroids tests annually on its nearly 2,000 players, according to the spokesman." |

I hear that you freeze in your tracks when someone points a flashlight @ you and you have a tendency to go into a headlong sprint when somebody lights a firecracker. My sources also say you can easily bound over an 8 foot fence with ease. Be careful my man or your head will be mounted on some rancher's living room in the near future. By the way, how does one find a reputable deer spray salesman? There was no listing in the yellow pages.
