Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has been on the disabled list since July 20 with a shoulder injury, but the news got worse Wednesday afternoon. The Reds announced that Rolen has had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs & fragments from AC joint in his left shoulder. He's expected to fully recover, but the timetable is four to six weeks.

Rolen, 36, is hitting .242/.279/.397 this season for the Reds. With him on the shelf, they'll likely continue using some combination of Miguel Cairo and Todd Frazier at third base.

The Reds are in fourth place in the NL Central, but within striking range at 6 1/2 games back.

Neftali Soto was our top 3B prospect coming into the season, but they have moved him to 1B for some reason (in AA now). He is hitting well with 22 Hrs although he doesnt walk (like most of our prospects).

Anyone know anything about his possible future at 3B?

This should be the end of his career.  8 weeks left, and he will miss over half of them.  By the time he gets his timing back, the September callups will be here and the Reds will in all likelihood be out of the race.  The team needs more than a leader at 3B, they need someone who can hit.  Put Frazier in there and see what he can do.

Hope this guy does the Reds a favor and retires. Good D, no bat and always hurt.
Please please retire!
