Giambi hits disabled list

By Matt Snyder

Rockies first baseman/pinch-hitter Jason Giambi has been placed on the disabled list with a strained left quadriceps (Thomas Harding via Twitter).

Normally, a part-time role player hitting the disabled list wouldn't be especially newsworthy, but this week, it is. Giambi's name was being tossed around in trade rumors, specifically being connected with the Pirates and Phillies. Obviously being on the disabled list doesn't necessarily mean Giambi won't be traded, but with the non-waiver deadline looming less than a week away, teams will likely look in another direction and concentrate on healthy players.

Giambi is hitting .260/.357/.625 with 10 home runs and 24 RBI in 112 plate appearances.
