Kyle LohseBy C. Trent Rosecrans

The Cardinals sent right-handed starter Kyle Lohse back to St. Louis on Thursday to have a finger on his pitching hand examined by the team's doctor, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes.

The Cardinals have already been rumored to be searching for starting pitching, and any kind of injury to Lohse would magnify that need. It could also affect the bullpen, as any starter added to the rotation was expected to bump Kyle McClellan back to the bullpen.

Manager Tony La Russa wouldn't give many specifics about Lohse.

"He's still scheduled to be our guy Sunday," La Russa told Goold. "We'll keep our fingers crossed."

Lohse, 32, is 8-7 with a 3.45 ERA in 19 starts this season, but he has struggled in July, going 0-3 with a 7.64 ERA in three starts. He's 1-5 with a 5.70 ERA since the start of June.

Wells,I did the same thing and made many points as to why this guy is not worth anywhere near 10m a year.Like how he is not even a lock for 200 innings, his career era is average at best, and his W-L record is below .500.Loshe and Boras took advantage of Mo in his first year as GM.To be quite honest his 2008 season was good but come on his era was still close to 4.At his 2008 statline I could see him making 10M a year, but at the time there was nothing that showed me he could keep that up.

Lohse sent back to St. Louis with 'finger issue'

I really hate to hear this as Lohse was finally earning HALF of what we're paying him.  I cursed violently when the Cardinals signed him to that 4 year deal for WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much money...Any of those who'd argue he's been worth any of this money....remember we paid him $41M for these 4 years!!! What a joke!!!  He had a good start to the year and I was hopeful he could just keep his ERA under 4 and get us 15 wins.  That is sad when over $10M a year won't get you an ERA under 4!!!!  I hope he's healthy, but man I don't look forward to another couple years with this clown!
