We found out Saturday that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez might have to undergo surgery to repair a slight tear in the meniscus of his right knee. Sunday, it's become a reality. Rodriguez will have the surgery and will miss the next four to six weeks (Star-Ledger via Twitter).

A-Rod has been hitting well from a certain point of view recently, but his knee issue has caused a career-long power drought. This is actually the perfect time to have the procedure done in-season, as the All-Star break means a half-week without games. So it's possible he only misses three and a half weeks of game action and is then fully recovered down the stretch.

Rodriguez, 35, is hitting .295 with 13 homers and 52 RBI. He was elected to his 14th All-Star Game this season, but obviously had to back out due to the injury.

He is still on a streak of 30 + HR and 100 + RBI and in 2008 and 2009 he hit 30 still while missing significant time each year. The only thing that went down was games played because of surgery in 2009 and he missed 38 games and still managed 30 and 100 and in 2008 he missed 24 but ended with 35 HR and 103 RBI and in 2010 he missed 25 games and had 30 HR and 125 RBI.  where has he been on the decline?smarten up!!

A-Rod elects to have surgery, out 4-6 weeks

I was feeling bad about all the bad deals the Sox have made until I realised the Yankees have this guy for 6.5 more years. As for the post informing us they weren't going to repair his Meniscus, but remove part of it.I guess that's the part A-Rod doesn't need.If that's the case, maybe the rest of the team should have it done.

We can build him stronger. We can build him faster. We can make him almost as good as Jeter!

Kdawg, you could not be more wrong about him not being under pressure saying his HR , AVG and RBI go down. He is a career .300 hitter with RISP and when the game is within 3 runs either way he is a .300 hitter with 474 HR and 1415 RBI.

People people people.....They aren't repairing it, they are removing a piece of the miniscus. There's a difference. If he were to get that repaired, then it's 4 months of rehab.....Minimum. He'll be walking out of that surgery and back to normal activities not long after.

I should know. I've had one repaired which took me 5 months to rehab in high school. I was still able to play baseball in the spring after going through horrible rehab. I wasn't as fast around the bases. And I just had my other removed. I was back to normal after a few weeks, and I am not a world class athlete or have great medical training staff.

He'll be fine it's a minor procedure.

Oh, it's his knee. I seen A-Rod surgery and I thought maybe he was going to have his pea-sized testacles replaced since his career is winding down. They can transplant just about anything these days. I don't think the side effects from steroids are any worse than all the crap they advertise on tv now. They should have just left players use whatever they want. It was a lot more exciting when we had players who could whack the ball around a lot better. Good luck A-Rod. You the man.
