Jeter, A-Rod to skip All-Star Game

Derek Jeter will not play in next week's All-Star Game in Phoenix, he told reporters, including CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler, before Friday's game with the Rays.

Jeter's teammate and fellow starter for the AL squad, Alex Rodriguez, will also skip the game and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Friday on his balky knee. Rodriguez is not in the Yankees' lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.

"He's not moving well," Girardi said of A-Rod. "His leg has been a little sore ... would the rest help him? Probably."

Rodriguez hasn't homered in his last 85 at-bats, the longest such stretch of his career -- which is likely related to the injury.

"I have no pop," he said recently.

As for Friday's game, it has been postponed due to severe thunderstorms.

Here's the solution, if you are not on the DL you have to suit up and be able to play.  This is supposed to be what the fans want.  If you don't play then there should be a fine.  I understand there are aches and pains but that is part of baseball.  The guys who just left the NL squad all went on the DL. Again my argument of I don't want anyone to complain when they feel screwed about home field in the World Series.  But I know it will happen.

I don't like or dislike the Yankees, but to say they all get a "free pass" from the public for not going to the All-Star game is B.S.  I understand Rodriguez, if his knee is hurt...that's fine.  Mariano Rivera is a little iffy on whether or not he should play because from everything I've read, he could pitch if they needed him for REGULAR SEASON GAME.  As far as Jeter???? Bull ****  He is healthy enough to try and get his precious 3,000 hits record all week and this weekend, but not healthy enough to play on Thursday after three days rest???  Bull ****.  Jeter is a punk, and is letting down millions of fans, as far as the other two....it's up in the air.  And what about atleast going?  If millions of fans chose you to go, you should atleast GO TO THE GAME, or in my opinion you're not an all-star.  That's right, if you opt out of the game and don't go, then erase that you were ever an "all-star" that year.  That will take their money bonus out of their paycheck and keep that stat off their career marks.

Here's the problem with everything with the All Star game.  I remember when it was a honor to play in the all star game.  Players also enjoyed the bonus that came along with it.  But now because they are making such an extreme amount of money who cares that the fans want to see me play.  I would rather enjoy the time off.  I am a National League fan and I hope they win.  I hope the Yankees get to the World Series and it comes down to a game seven.  Then I hope the Yankees and their fans say it's unfair that the all star game determined home field for the World Series and we had a better record than the Phillies, Brewers, Cardinals, Giants, or whoever comes out the National League.  Then they lose the game.  I would say look at the three All Stars on your team who wanted the time off and don't blame anyone else.  We all know the rules.
