GuillenOzzie Guillen was up to his old antics on Monday, being tossed in the sixth inning when he argued that Alexei Ramirez fouled off a ball instead of grounding out. Ramirez beat a ball into the ground but the umpire's view was obscured by catcher Geovany Soto, who pounced on the ball and tagged Ramirez out, although it appeared Soto picked up the ball in foul territory, which would have allowed Ramirez to continue batting.

Guillen rushed out of the dugout, showing umpire James Hoye exactly where the ball was, but earned an ejection. Guillen angrily kicked away Soto's mask, which you can see in the video right here before continuing with his argument. There was some laughter to be had after, as Soto could not find his mask.

"The look on Soto’s face when he got his facemask kicked, that was priceless," Konerko told MLB.com, while Guillen rolled his eyes when he said the umpire was right and he was wrong, according to the Chicago Tribune. He added that he would have broken his toe 20 years ago had he kicked a catcher's mask, given that they were much heavier back then.

As usual, the announcers either don't know the rule or do not explain it.
The announcers are blinded by White Sox homerism. There's a pretty good chance that Ozzie hasn't a clue of the rule either.

Watch the last replay closely.  This is from a much better angle.  It appears that the umpire might be correct.  If any part of the baseball is still touching any part of home plate when the catcher picks it up - it is a fair ball.  As usual, the announcers either don't know the rule or do not explain it.  From the last replay, it certainly appears likely that the ball is still touching the back part of home plate - and if so, the umpire is right.  The vast majority of umpires would eject any manager for actions such what Ozzie did.

Umpires are not 100%, nowhere near it. I could care less about a manager having a fit over a bad call, some managers make a living of it. My problem with Ozzie is that I just don't think he's very good at managing the Sox.

Also, kudos to leatherneck for properly using the word ""gesticulating" in a sentence.  Down one notch for failing to spell "Exorbitant" correctly.

Watch the replay in real time.  Hoye has a pretty quick trigger if you ask me.  Have to agree with the comment that some umpires act like they're bigger than the game.  Although this kind of umpire grandstanding seemed to have cooled after their last work stoppage, it now seems like it has gotten as bad as it was in the Bruce Freomming and that showboating ump who wrote a few books era.

Note to the league.  The fans pay the exhobitant prices to see the players, not and umpire spinning and gesticulating wildly.

An ejection is the most exciting part of the game for a lot of fans at the ballpark.  It's not quite as much fun to watch on TV.  Ozzie is a little lucky that the face mask went straight ahead and didn't veer to the left or it would have hit the ump.  Then he'd be in a heap o'trouble.  Anyway, fans love this kind of stuff, but of course a brawl is even more popular.

Ozzie was right.  Too bad more managers aren't like Ozzie, umps like the clown in that game deserve to have managers go ballisitic.

This umpire is maybe the worst ump in the NL. Was ozzie in the wrong? Yes..but he was probably working up a good sweat/anger watching James Hoye butcher another game. Blame Ozzie all you want..but fans this is one lousy, bad umpire. We fans in STL have seen this butcher/act many times before. He's really a bad umpire!

It's "nowhere," not "not where."

"It's embarrassing," not "its embarassing."

It's "kids who see," not "kids who sees."

You go away!
