By Matt Snyder Former Astros closer Brandon Lyon's nightmare of a season continues. He's back on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis and may need surgery, which would likely end his season (Ultimate Astros). He will visit Dr. Lewis Yocum Friday to determine if it's needed. Lyon finally admitted he's suffering from soreness in his shoulder earlier this week during a bullpen session.
“There’s definitely some issues in my shoulder right now and [surgery is] definitely an option,” Lyon said. “I just want to get a grasp on it and talk to some other people and get some options on it.”
Lyon, 31, began the season as the Astros' closer, but blew a save on opening day and things haven't gotten any better since. He did work his ERA down to 4.35 before blowing saves in back-to-back appearances and then hitting the DL in early May. He returned from the disabled list earlier this month, but has been horrible since. In just three outing, Lyon has allowed eight earned runs in just two innings. On the season, Lyon has four saves and four blown saves, with an 11.47 ERA.
