Ramiro Pena at stadium, Jeter to DL?

PenaRamiro Pena is at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, leading some to believe that Jeter would be headed to the DL as a result. While that is still possible, CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler says that Pena is being added to the team regardless -- either Jeter will go on the DL or a pitcher will be demoted. The Yankees want to have as much flexibility as possible for interleague play, and if Jeter stays on the team, New York needs the healthy infielder while Jeter rests his calf.

The Yankees announced they will not decide whether to put Jeter on the DL until 6 p.m., as Jeter is expected to meet with a doctor. The team wants to ensure Jeter really does need to go on the DL instead of getting healthy in just a few days. Knobler adds Jeter is arguing against going on the DL.

Pena, 25, has collected 288 total plate appearances over the last two seasons for the Yankees, contributing a .253/.283/.305 line. Down in Triple-A, he was at .269/.341/.404 and would be the backup infielder upon activation. That would free Eduardo Nunez to be the starting shortstop in Jeter's absence.

I believed previously it was likely to be lots of fantastically dull traditional hand in, but it surely undoubtedly in actual fact spent to find my time.

It's important to the Yankees that Jeter does it at home and he isn't a key contributor to the team.  This makes a lot of sense.

idiots, if jeter goes on the DL he misses two weeks and gets back for the three game homestand against milwaukee then another six game road trip. If he played now and doesnt go on the DL he'd have three home games before the next road series. You morons should think, Yankees dont want to be down a player on their bench for an extended period of time THAT's why Jeter is going on the DL (if he does)

This is a shocker..what a joke of an organization the Yanks have become...put Jeter on the DL just so he can miss the next 2 road trips and pick up right where he left off , 6 hits shy of 3000 coming into a new homestand...Im not doubting an injury but I am doubting the severity of it.

i would hope it has absolutely nothing to do with it.  When Griff, Jr. was about to hit (i think it was) 500, he didn't tank it just to do it in Cincy.  He eventually hit it St. Louie.

i cannot imagine Jeter sand-bagging it.  If they (the Yanks as an organization) do sand-bag, it will cost them in the end...always does.
Also, i do not buy Jeter taking PEDs.  A-Rod...yeah but not Jeter.

Well, if Jeter took steroids, he should get his money back because his physique never changed. I don't buy that allegation one bit. I hate the Yankees as much as anyone, but to think Jeter took steroids is laughable.

A day after the last home opener at the House that Ruth Built was washed out, the were hit with a much bigger bombshell: a former player says that shortstop , took steroids and other performance-enhancing substances.

The source of the allegations is ex-Yankee pitcher

Solid idea.  Honestly a two week break wouldn't be a bad idea.  It may keep Jeter fresher for the stretch.  How much do you all think Jeter wanting to get #3,000 in New York rather than Wrigley Field or Cincy has to do with sitting him for a bit?
