Tsuyoshi NishiokaJoe Mauer could be back as soon as Thursday, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters on Sunday.

Mauer will catch games Sunday and Monday for Class A Fort Myers and possibly Tuesday. Then he'll bat against Joe Nathan on Wednesday and could be back in Minneapolis by Thursday.

Mauer will not play at Triple-A Rochester before being activated. Second baseman Tsuyoshi Nishioka is playing for the Red Wings on Sunday.

Gardenhire had said he wanted Mauer to play against Triple-A before coming up, just so he could see better pitching and fastballs.

"He can count on one hand how many fastballs he's seen since he's been playing down there, and that's kind of one of those reasons you might want to send him to Triple-A," Gardenhire told reporters, including John Shipley of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "He might see some fastballs down there. There are some veteran guys who might know how to mix it up there. Those kids, they'll just be winging breaking balls all over the place."

Mauer's played in just nine games this season, going to the disabled list in April with what the team called "bilateral leg weakness."

From a Tigers fan, Joe Mauer please take your time coming back.  You do not want to rush it and come back too early.  I would do at least 30 games in AAA to make sure you're ready!

Finaly Joe Mauer coming back from the DL will help me out a lot in my fantasy teams that I have him on but then again he might not play good at all because he is still on the run down Twins team and there low down fans too.

It's a mental problem, read up Redmen.

I'd be willing to bet big dollars that you have or have had a fantasy team.  Mauer and Morneau or the wimpiest guys in baseball and I bet you couldn't name anyone wimpier.

It is not a mental problem:

Overview

Bilateral weakness in the leg muscles can be as mild as  a generalized feeling of fatigue in your legs or as extreme as complete  paralysis. Bilateral weakness indicates a problem in your central nervous system  -- in your brain, spinal cord or nerves. Many disease processes or trauma can  cause bilateral weakness in your legs.

Read more: As stated it can be caused by trauma. Surgery is considered trauma no matter how major or minor.

As for me having or having had a fantasy team, you would lose big dollars. I don't have the time it would take to really compete in a league. I catch most Twins games on the radio because I am too busy to watch them on TV. But someday....hopefully...the money will be better and my time will be my own.

Yeah...like you pu$$ies getting on Mauer could actually play WITHOUT his medical issues...
Why bother to find out that bi-lateral leg/lower extremety weakness is/can be a quite serious condition, right?
Most of the criticism stems from the fact that the kid signed the huge contract.  What do you suppose,
that after signing the deal he's decided not to honor it?  Morneau got the same crap
last year with the concussion.  All the "Medical Experts" cried for months about his not "gutting it out".
If he or Mauer had a broken wrist, no one would say a word, and a broken wrist is nothing compared to either of their conditions.
I bet the opportunity for you to use the word "Vagina" in a post got you pretty excited, eh?
