Morrison

By Evan Brunell

Quite the rivalry is brewing between the Marlins and Giants, and Logan Morrison just took it a step further.

The Marlins left fielder felt compelled to speak out about Giants GM Brian Sabean's inflammatory comments in which he said that he wouldn't miss Cousins at all if he never played in the majors again. Cousins, of course, was the player to smash into Buster Posey, breaking Posey's leg and ending his season. Many are divided on whether the play was clean or dirty.

"That's immature," Morrison told MLB.com of Sabean's comments. "That's childish."

Posey Injury

"I hope [Sabean] apologizes, because what he said was wildly inappropriate and wildly unprofessional, and it really shows ignorance on his part," Morrison said. "Not to show compassion for a human being who is going through a hard time ... I guess he wouldn't know anything about. If it were me, and I was on his side, I'd reserve my comments until the death threats have subsided."

Cousins has reportedly received death threats. Although he feels the play was clean, he has attempted to reach out to Posey to apologize for the injury and says the play is still an "open wound" for him. The Giants, for their part, released a statement that said Sabean's comments were spoken out of frustration, and that the GM was reaching out to both Cousins and Marlins president Larry Beinfest.

Morrison came right out and said he had "animosity" toward Sabean and his comments, although he holds no grudges against the Giants. But he also has lost respect for Posey:

If it was me running, I would have put him in the third row of the stands. If he got hurt, I'm sorry. That's part of the game. I'd feel bad if he did get hurt. But I wouldn't have written a two-page letter like Cousins did. I wouldn't have tried to reach out to him like Cousins did, because I know it's part of the game. I wouldn't have felt half as bad as Cousins did. And for Posey not to write back to him or say anything to him, that's just immature and childish. I have no respect for him or respect for Sabean.

The 23-year-old had plenty more to say on the subject, and he doesn't think the rules should be altered for collisions at home plate that place both the runner and catcher in danger:

If he doesn't like the rules, be in a different game. These have been around for a hundred years. This game is this way because it doesn't make the changes that football does or like basketball does. It sticks with the same rules. For him to question the integrity of the game because it happens to him, and it happens to one of his best players, doesn't mean that it should ask for rules changes.

Here's the thing: It's the winning run of the game. Even if he did, and I'm not saying he did have a clear lane, but that lane was about to be shut off by Posey, who was coming back towards him to tag him.

You're watching it in slow motion replay. If I had a clean lane and had to slide, and I was out by sliding, I'm mad at myself for not running him over. It's within my rights to run him over and separate him from the ball.

Morrison added that several Giants players told him and other Marlins players that the play was clean.

If I do not want to get hurt, I do not stand on the tracks when a train is coming. Part of the game, you block the plate in full pads with a play at home then you should expect a collision. Guess shoulder pads will be part of the catcher attire next year. Lost at lot of respect for Posey and of course Sabean is a clown anyway. Posey needs to take some lessons from Mauer if he wants to see class. (not a twins fan but a baseball fan). Is Posey's name spelled wrong......? I thought it was spelled Pussy.

Logan Morrison may become my favorite ballplayer. He explains it simply.

You are taught to play hard and fair. You are also taught to always protect yourself.

Pete Rose, Jackie Robinson, and Ty Cobb all approve.

Except for Cobb, he would have spiked him.

Sabean is a complete jerk, no argument here. As a Giants fan, I almost hope they use this as an excuse to get rid of him because he is not a good GM and obviously not a good person. I don't exactly see where you come off calling anyone a pussy. Posey's agent said something about changing the rules but I have not heard him say anything about it. It's called frustration, you idiot! The player they absolutely could not afford to lose is done for the season and they're pissed. I'd like to see just how understanding you would be if the best player on your favorite team went down for the season on a play like that. What do you expect Posey to do? Go out on his crutches and give Cousins a big hug and sing, "We Are The World". I don't blame Cousins and neither do most rational people, it was a bang bang play and an accident that Posey got hurt. You should watch who you call a pussy, too. That is, unless you're looking in the mirror.

I'm a Giants fan and I hold no animosity toward Scott Cousins, but the fact of the matter is...Buster Posey is out for the season. It's been a little over a week and he's an awful person because he hasn't talked to Scott Cousins yet? I'm sure he has bigger fish to fry. Sabean's statements were uncalled for, but I've heard worse. For example,  Logan Morrison minimalizing the extent of Posey's injuries as "Part of the game." The hit was unnessessary, we all know that. Cousins was safe either way. Cousins made a huge mistake, but his remorse is not tantamount to what Posey, the Giants, and the fans are feeling. Our 2010 Rookie of the Year is out for the season because of some nobody whose hitting way below the Mendoza line. It's a little depressing.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves for wishing ill fate on anyone. I doubt you would be chipper after you broke your leg and shredded your ankle on a poor decision that could have been avoided. I'm sure you'd all be crying, depressed little babies if your career and livelihood was compromised.

I've never written on a blog before, but it just baffled me how people can be so harsh and unkind. I don't know who or how anyone could speak about people as some of you are doing so. Being mature is being rational and understanding individuals, Logan Morrison lacks the good judgement and so does Sabean. I'm an elementary school teacher and my goal is to reach out to children before they become heartless, tainted individuals who don't care about anyone. Think twice about what you say.

However, give Posey a break. He's the one that has the long road ahead of him. Hes probably still dealing with that. Im sure he'll "write" Cousins soon, but Morrison should simmer down on criticizing the injured guy.

he did get a break......literally.....the more i hear about poseys actions the more i hope the dude never comes back.....kirk gibson or chad krueter would have kicked him in his broken leg for acting like such a pansy....if you dont want to risk getting hurt you should take up chess....sabean and posey need to man up and stop acting like children....he put himself in a bad position...thats on him not the runner...

Hey BUSTER, maybe when you get a grown-up name, you will act like a grown-up, instead of a baby.  Fact is, you got hurt...wah wah freaking wah, you think you're the only one to ever get hurt in baseball?  Or even a collision at home plate?  Tell you what, go ask Ray Fosse about it.  He had Pete Rose absolutely blow him up on a play at the plate....gave him a concussion and I am pretty sure more than a few nightmares.  Did he act like a pussy over it??  No.  Did Charlie Finley go whining like a bitch about changing rules?  No.  You're a pussy Buster, pure and simple.  And Sabean....oh, what a c&cksucker,  Here is what I hope happens: All the death threats directed at Cousins, I hope they're visited on Sabean.  He would be happy if Cousins never played another game?  More than a few would be happy if Sabean never breathed another breath.  What a bunch of sickening crybaby bitches the San Francisco Giants are.
