I'm not sure the folks at Pepto-Bismol (or at least their advertising agency) know what Cinco de Mayo celebrates.

No, it doesn't celebrate fruit in beer and enchiladas -- although that is a perfectly acceptable way to celebrate the holiday. No, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

You know what country had zero to do with the Battle of Puebla? Cuba.

You know where Aroldis Chapman is from? Cuba.

But that didn't stop Pepto-Bismol (or its Cincinnati-based maker, Procter and Gamble) from using the Reds' Chapman in a Cinco de Mayo-themed commercial. Check it out:

Besides the fact Chapman is in it and he's Cuban and not Mexican, it's a decent commercial, I guess.

Thank you for recanting the exact purpose of this article.  You shed no new light on the subject and I can only hope you are not employed to do such.  BTW Chicago is Epic Fail troll.

Pepto-Bismol's confusing commercial

That was really stupid.  Not only does Cuba have nothing to do with Cinco de Mayo, but neither do pinatas!  I guess they're aren't any Mexican ball players with as high a profile as Chapman.  The ad also never gives any reason why someone would purchase the product.  Epic fail!

Pepto-Bismol's confusing commercial

It worked!  The goal of a commercial is to create a reaction or get you talking about it.  You did and I did and I'm sure we're not the only two talking about it.  They paid for the commercial but this is all free!  Stu in Florida
