Andrew McCutchenPirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen has been granted a leave of absence from the Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

The Pirates have said McCutchen has gone home to deal with a personal matter, but would shed no more light on his situation or even how long he may be gone.

"That's really all we're going to share right now, out of respect to his privacy," manager Clint Hurdle said.

Jose Tabata will replace McCutchen in center field and Matt Diaz will start in left. Pittsburgh has games tonight and tomorrow night at Florida before returning to Pittsburgh for a series against the Nationals on Friday.

McCutchen is hitting .230/.356/.426 with three home runs this season. He was 0 for 4 in a 6-0 loss to the Marlins last night.

McCutchen takes leave of absence from Pirates

So what is he batting? .230? .356? .426? Or do we just add all three together and come out with an average? Hmmmm.
Once again Alabama shines as an example of education and knowledge.   Ala bama man  ala bama man  comes with beer chugging / bowling  B**** slapping action!!!

.230 is his BATTING AVERAGE, .356 is his ON BASE PERCENTAGE, and the .426 is his SLUGGINS PERCENTAGE

I would explain the mathematical formulas used to derive those, but since you cant do it on your fingers and toes it may be a concept
too hard to grasp

Hope he gets it straightened out. Anyway's this had to have happened within the last 24 hours. I basically saw him shagging fly balls in CF during BP on Tuesday afternoon. One particular ball, popped up, just before it left the infield he judged where it was going to wind up, got there, laid down flat on his back and caught the ball, barely even moving his glove.

good. take some batting practice and get a haircut while you're there. Hitting .214 and looking like lil john ain't cutting it.
Wow, someone is upset that they lost two or three to them to start the year.

I agree w/you 100% he may end up being a star player or at least the best on the pirates. The fact that he is so young has me worried about the reason he had to leave God Bless him hope all turns out well for him and family.

McCutchen takes leave of absence from Pirates

You people can't be serious with your posts. McCutchen is an great young talent who plays hard every game. For him to be taking leaving his team, especially this early in the season, something's terribly wrong within his family, his life or both. To make light of that with the comments you're making is juvenile and bush league. Grow up and go post on twitter or myspace if you don't have anything more constructive to say than what you have been.
