Ubaldo JimenezThe Rockies have put Ubaldo Jimenez on the disabled list, retroactive to April 2 with a right thumb cuticle cut.

The Rockies have called up Greg Reynolds, who will start on Saturday in Pittsburgh. Reynolds, who was the runner-up in the fifth starter race, is guaranteed just one start and the team will evaluate him then.

Jorge De La Rosa will be moved up in the rotation to take Jimenez's start on Friday in Pittsburgh, the Denver Post's Troy Renck tweets.

Jimenez could be back as soon as April 17, when he is eligible to return. He's better, Renck writes, but the team doesn't want to take any chances with Jimenez.

Consider this.  Jimenez faltered in the 2nd half of 2010.  At times he looked pretty hittable.  He did not have a dynamic Spring training.  His first 2011 start was forgettable.  Now he's got a cuticle cut and on the DL.  Perhaps all this is just a normal progression of events, and he'll soon be twirling 2-hitters and sawing off bats.  But I must confess I'm nervous about him.

Other pitchers I'm nervous about?  How about Cole Hamels.  He allowed 2 base hits in the same inning to his opposing pitcher no less on the way to a good old fashioned thumping.  Then there's Mat Latos who, only perhaps a year removed from his first shave, cut through NL lineups like a wheat scythe.  Fast forward to 2011 we find poor Mat having a perfectly miserable Spring followed by the dreaded shoulder pain.

Two of these three guys are in my fantasy lineup.

OK, Ninja-star, thanks. I thought saying things that way was better than cursing him out for being a f****** baby, but if you think its better to say it this way so be it.

OMFG, what a f****** baby Jimenez must be!

Is that better?

Jerk!

Thunderpants...They start baseball with alot of day games and most kids are still in school. Thus empty stadiums, when kids get out of school and summer comes the places get packed. 162 games buddy, it takes awhile for people to care again, it isn't going broke. Go Rockies!

I don't live in a city with MLB but it seems to me the stadiums are half empty this year. Anyone notice this or is it this way every year? Even the Cubs game today had a lot of empty seats. I think we're seeing two things. One is the folks we have in the White House and congress are killing our pocket books or it's just more fun watching it at home and cheaper. I love baseball but it's heading for some big changes if no one goes to the games. Players won't get paid and it will go broke.

I love Ubaldo to death but watching Opening Day was torture. I knew something was wrong with him and was afraid he would be visiting Dr. James Andrews one day in the near future for either a shoulder or elbow problem. When I heard it was a cut cuticle I was surprised and relieved and sure he would make it ito his next start. I know Tracy's thinking is that he doesn't want him altering his mechanics for any little reason but by now surely it should be healed. Originally they were saying his next start would be tomorrow against the Dodgers so I guess they changed that and have decided to put the 5th starter in ugh! Esmil Rogers is not appealing to me at all and I am a little worried about Jason Hammel tonight. That is getting off track. When he is off the disabled list for this tiny little cut is he going to have to go to Colorado Springs for a rehab start? I am due to go the game on the 17th and would like to see the real Ubaldo pitching that day. I don't like my chances.

Let's not forget that Tony Romo missed 4 games for a broken pinky.  A big tough NFL player sat out by choice because of a pinky, so you can go shut your pie hole.

Hey hey hey... Who said Tony Romo was a big tough NFL player?   How can it take two weeks for the cuticle to heal?  I suppose its the 2nd week, and not many teams care yet.  IE the Pirates having a winning record, RedSox being 0-4...

OMG, what a wuss!!! What, did his manicurist get a little too close with the emery board??

Talk about pampering a supposed world-class athlete. The old-time players must be rolling in their graves when they see this nonsense. Can you imagine Lefty Grove or Walter Johnson going on the DL for a cut on the cuticle???
