There might be no better embodiment of the weirdness of Alex Rodriguez's public perception than what happened during the first quarter of the Super Bowl.

While showing notable people in the crowd, the cameras caught A-Rod in a luxury box, as girlfriend Cameron Diaz fed him popcorn (hat tip to Twitter follower @carlosolin for the screen grab). And it was ... just weird.

Here's a zillionaire Yankees superstar, at the biggest event of the year, being lovingly fed by his super-famous actress girlfriend -- that should be about as cool as cool gets, right? And A-Rod somehow manages to make even that seem awkward and unnatural.

Instead of adding to his bigshot cred, it's going to be a Saturday Night Live sketch. Because that's the relationship the American public has with Rodriguez. Deadspin.com put up the video with a headline that says it perfectly: "A-Rod eats popcorn in the most A-Rod way possible."

Announcer Joe Buck's reaction: "I'm sure Alex is thrilled we just put the camera on him at that moment."
