Joe Torre Dodgers manager Joe Torre will let the team know if he wants to manage next year before the end of this season, the Los Angeles Times ' Steve Dilbeck reports .

Torre said he'll make a decision sometime in September.

"I have to, it's not fair to them if I don't do that," Torre said.

The Dodgers approached Torre about an extension during spring training, but Torre declined.

"I don't want them to think that I'm coming back and I decide not to, then they're sort of caught without a plan," Torre told Dilbeck.

Torre to decide future before season's end

He has some kind of magic touch that is for sure because he sure can't manage. He has some intangable that i cant see but the managing skill is just not there. His real success was with a super talented yankee team, his years with atlanta and with the Cardinals was not good as a manager and he had losing seasons. He needs to retire. Relax and enjoy the rest of his life.

Retire Joe. It's an easy one just retire. You don't have it anymore. The Dodgers are a mess and you don't deserve that. Just go home and relax and enjoy the rest of your life. Maybe the Dodgers need the change too. God knows you do. Good luck to you and have a great rest of your life.

Torre to decide future before season's end

I am not happy about last night's game either but don't put it all on Torre--Broxton needed to get somebody, anybody really, out at a critical time but he did not make great pitches.  Also, don't forget on several occassions there was a runner on third as well -- throw through to 2b to stop the steal and you risk the runner on 3rd coming home so its not an easy decision.  Finally, if Loney pulls his head out of you know where and throws home rather than stepping on 1b first the tying run may never score either -- dumb play by Loney, basic baseball and he blew it, both from the extra time it took to go to
1b first and the fact it created an off-balance throw.

What I do know is that Torre has had the Dodgers in the NLCS two straight years -- I'd take him back for another season if he wants to manage.

Torre to decide future before season's end

Watching the game last night, it is time for Torre to retire.  Letting three runners go to second because of "indifference" is fucking pathetic, and it led directly to the loss.  Keep any of those runners on at first and you have a chance to get a force out.  Instead you let runners just stroll down to second (three times) and hope for the best.  Pathetic.  Four run lead gone, Broxton was horrible, but you need to show your club you aren't just going to "try" to win.

Torre to decide future before season's end

How about a trade?  Dusty Baker gets to return to LA and the Reds get Joe Torre.
